This 0.5 credit hour medical terminology course covers material over the integumentary (skin) system, the muscular system, and the skeletal system. Included in this course are the structure and function, pathology, diagnostic and treatment procedures, and abbreviations related to these systems. It emphasizes accurate interpretations and analysis of patient, hospital, and other medical records.

Prerequisite: HP 303 BA: Introduction to Medical Terminology Badge.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this badge, students will be able to:

  • Identify words and word parts used in medical terminology
  • Define words and common word roots, prefixes, and suffixes used in medical terminology.
  • Recognize the importance of spelling medical terms correctly.
  • Apply medical terms to specific situations in the medical setting.

Credit Hours

Success in this 0.5 credit hour course is based on the expectation that students will spend, for each unit of credit, a minimum of 7.5 hours over the length of the course in direct instruction as provided by the instructor and an additional 15 hours outside of class reading, reflecting, and evaluating the topics for a total of 22.5 hours.
