FAQs for Graduate Badges
Frequently Asked Questions – Graduate Level Badges
I was admitted as a non-degree or badge seeking student, but I now want to pursue a graduate degree. What do I do?
Students originally admitted to a non-degree or badge category may later apply for degree admission. You will need to submit a new Graduate School application and application fee, and possibly official transcripts, as well as any departmental materials required for degree-bound admission consideration. Visit www.wichita.edu/gradprograms for departmental requirements for admission. Visit www.wichita.edu/gradschool for application/admission requirements.
Can badge credits be applied to a graduate degree at Wichita State University?
After admission to a graduate program, it is possible that badge credit could count toward a graduate degree, if it is approved by both your advisor and the Graduate School as a part of your graduate degree Plan of Study. All standard Graduate School degree completion requirements apply, including time limits.
How many courses may be transferred to a degree program from a non-degree status?
A maximum of 12 hours of graduate credit taken while in a non-degree category may be counted toward a degree program, provided students have obtained the approval of their major departments and the graduate dean, through submission of the Plan of Study.
How long are courses valid before expiring or needing course validation for the Plan of Study?
Students have six years in which to complete a master’s degree program starting from the first semester the student begins the coursework that is designated on the Plan of Study. Similarly, doctoral programs requiring a master’s degree for admission, must be completed within six years from the semester the student begins the coursework that is designated on the Plan of Study. For Doctoral programs requiring only a bachelor’s degree for admission, the degree must be completed within nine years from the semester the student begins the coursework that is designated on the Plan of Study.
How many no-graded courses may be used on a Plan of Study?
No more than 6 hours of work graded S or Cr or Bg may be used toward the requirements of a graduate degree (excluding dissertation, thesis and other independent study activities that are terminal degree requirements). Refer to individual program areas as they may differ regarding this 6-hour limit.
