Discusses how to provide vocational, educational and career support for individuals with disabilities. In addition, students review crisis intervention strategies and organizational and planning processes for direct support providers. This course includes 15 hours of classroom instruction (1-credit hour) of the required 60 hours of classroom instruction for the certificate of advanced proficiency in DSPaths credentialing training through the Ohio Alliance of Direct Support Providers (OADSP) curriculum. Graded Bg/NBg.
Credit Hours
Success in this 1 credit hour course is based on the expectation that students will spend, for each unit of credit, a minimum of 15 hours over the length of the course (normally 1 hour per unit per week with 1 of the hours used for lecture) for instruction and preparation/studying or course related activities for a total of 45 hours. As a longtime employee in the field of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, Heather's goal is to continue to educate employees, stakeholders, and the greater community about disabilities, to advance the agenda for greater knowledge, better funding, acceptance, and equal treatment.
Currently, Heather works as a training and development specialist for Johnson County Developmental Supports. She is responsible for creating and maintaining training content for both licensing requirements and supplemental training needs.
