This course focuses on professionalism within the helping professions, with particular attention to the National Association of Social Workers’ Code of Ethics. Students will discuss ethical responsibilities and challenges which may exist within multilevel practice arenas, with particular attention to documentation, confidentiality, and technology. Specific practice issues with various types of helping will be examined.
Course Objectives
Upon completion of this badge, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate knowledge of professional social work ethics in practice.
- Identify at least three practice issues related to client rights, the professional relationship, and supervision.
- Articulate at least two requirements for record keeping and confidentiality.
- Describe ten ethical responsibilities for professionalism and technology usage.
Credit Hours
Success in this 0.5 credit hour course is based on the expectation that students will spend, for each unit of credit, a minimum of 7.5 hours over the length of the course in direct instruction as provided by the instructor and an additional 15 hours outside of class reading, reflecting, and evaluating the topics for a total of 22.5 hours.

Contact Hours for Professional Relicensure
Social Workers: Per state statute 10-2-4a, An academic social work course or an academic course oriented to the enhancement of social work for academic credit. Each licensee shall be granted 15 continuing education hours for each academic credit hour that the licensee successfully completes. Therefore the maximum for this course is 7.5 continuing education hours. Per state statute 10-2-5, individuals should self submit the academic course syllabus and verification that the course was presented (via transcript).
